Fr. Cristóbal Torres Iglesias, O.P. is a self-taught illustrator and painter. His work in recent years has explored the fusion of image and narrative in the history of sacred art, and has such wide-ranging influences as Eastern and Western Christian iconography, Ibero-American and Afro-Cuban popular religiosities, and sequential storytelling in the comic book medium. Fr. Cristóbal views sacred art as a visual theological narrative that reflects the artist’s critical engagement of his subject matter and more importantly, bears to others the fruits of contemplation. Fr. Cristóbal hopes his work will stimulate observers’ engagement of their own questions, even as it invites them to fall ever more deeply into God.
